Why isn't my Android phone finding homes nearby?

In general, Android devices have robust location support. However, there can be instances where your Android device has difficulty determining your location. In this case, your phone may be unable to find homes nearby. In most cases, the fix can be as simple as moving to a new location (such as going outside) or adjusting the settings in your browser.

If you are having trouble finding homes nearby, try the following steps:

  1. Check the "GPS" button on your miniListings app
If the button is green, then your app is accessing your location, but the problem may be that it is using an old location or is unable to determine your current location. Since the browser uses a variety of methods to pinpoint your location, including GPS, cellphone towers, and Wi-fi networks, you will need to try one (or more) of the following to update your location:
    • If you are indoors, go outside (if feasible). GPS is a line-of-sight technology, so moving outside will give your phone an unobstructed view of the sky.
    • Try connecting to a Wi-fi network. To help determine locations indoors, Android references a database of location-identified Wi-fi networks.
After trying one of these steps, reload your app. If it still isn't working, try to open an app, such as Google Maps, and see if the app can determine your location. Once it does, go back to the browser and reload your app.

If your GPS button is red/grey, then proceed to the next step.

  2. Make sure Javascript is enabled in your browser settings
You can check your browser's Javascript settings by performing the following:
    • Open your browser
    • Press your phones "Menu" button
    • Select "Settings" (in many cases, you'll need to select "More" then "Settings")

    • Under the "Page Content Settings", find "Enable Javascript" and make sure the box is checked

Reload your miniListings app. If your GPS button is still red/grey, then proceed to the next step.

  3. Make sure "Enable Location" is checked in your browser settings
To make sure websites are allowed to access you location, perform the following steps:
    • Open your browser
    • Press your phones "Menu" button
    • Select "Settings" (in many cases, you'll need to select "More" then "Settings", see picture above)
    • Under the "Privacy Settings", find "Enable location" and make sure the box is checked

Reload your miniListings app. If your GPS button is still red/grey, then proceed to the next step.

  4. Check the "Website Settings" for your miniListings app
The first time you access your miniListings app, a pop-up appears asking you if you would to share your location with the website. If you hit "Decline", your app will not be allowed to access your location. To change this setting, perform the following steps:
    • Open your browser
    • Press your phones "Menu" button
    • Select "Settings" (in many cases, you'll need to select "More" then "Settings", see picture above)
    • Under the "Security Settings", select "Website settings - advanced settings for individual websites"

    • When the pop-up appears, select "Share location". You should also check the "Remember Preference" box for future access

Reload your miniListings app. If your GPS button is still red/grey, then proceed to the next step.

  5. Try another website or app that uses location based services
If none of the above steps resolves your location issue, try the following:
    • Try loading another website or app that uses location support, such as Google Maps
    • If the site cannot access your current location, it is possible that your carrier may have locked or restricted access to location-based services on your phone. You will need to contact your carrier to see if your location service can be "unlocked" (a fee may apply for this service)
    • If the site you loaded finds your location, reload your miniListings app (be sure to "Refresh the site"). If the app still cannot determine your location, please submit a support request that includes your Android phone type and the carrier so we can look into the problem
